We’ve assembled a group of highly-motivated experienced games industry professionals, all with a passion to create the very best mobile games. Many have experience building AAA game over the last 25+ years; and most of the team have been involved in building and publishing mobile games more recently.
We wanted to build much more than a stand-alone games, so have invested considerable time and effort to build a unique, high quality mobile gaming platform. Initially built for a range of iOS devices, and expansion to other operating systems is high on the priority list.
Founded in 2010, we have been operating in stealth mode under the name “Virtual Intelligence Inc.”, developing a proprietary animation and AI-based technology that will drive our new cross-genre mobile gaming platform.
With the launch of KnightScape, we’re starting to put the technology to use, and we can guarantee that it’s just the first piece of a massive game-changing jigsaw – where new gaming worlds will appear.
The Executive Team
Laurent Ancessi, CEO & Founder
Laurent Ancessi has more than 25 years of experience in the games business, with Electronic Arts, Sony, Radical Entertainment, and Sony’s Naughty Dog unit.
With extensive experience in AI, Animation, 3-D Graphics, Video Game Technology, Engineering Leadership and Executive Management, Laurent has directed large teams on multiple projects, producing world-class games – generating hundreds of millions in revenue.
Daniel J. Conradie – Board Member & Founder
Daniel was one of the original founders of Trinigy, a company recently acquired by Intel. Trinigy focuses on the development of 3D Game engine and technology with its headquarters based in Southern Germany, with offices in Austin, TX (USA) and Seoul, South Korea. Trinigy’s Vision Game Engine has been used by a broad range of games and simulation companies and is available on all major platforms, from the PC to game consoles such as PlayStation, XBOX and Nintendo Wii, browsers and mobile devices.
Montgomery Kersten – Board Member & Founder
‘Monty’ is a 32 year Silicon Valley veteran. Mr. Kersten works with development-stage companies as an advisor on strategic initiatives. He recently acted as vice president of strategy & business development for the Business Solutions Group of British Telecom, and today serves as a board member of several Silicon Valley private companies. Mr. Kersten is an active “Angel” investor in high technology companies.
Nick Malaperiman – Chief Revenue Officer
Nick has been in the video game and content business for more than 17 years. Nick has been responsible for the launch (as a marketer and producer) of games that grossed more than $200 million in revenue at EA Sports; he also launched X-Box Live in Canada, ran Nokia’s global content division; and enjoyed CMO and General Manager roles with mobile games start-ups. Nick has delivered more than 200 products (non-games) to market from inception across multiple digital platforms.
The Advisory Board
Louis brings true world-class to the advisory team. Louis was co-founder of the much-heralded Westwood Studios before being acquired by Electronic Arts, where Louis spent 6 years as VP,Creative Development. He later became CEO of Instant Action, before taking on the role of VP, Studios for Zynga. Louis is currently CSO of Shuffle Master Inc.
Tiffany is a seasoned games marketing expert. Her background includes work for Ubisoft, EA and most recently OUYA. Tiffany was selected by Business Insider in their PR 50: The Best Communications Pros In Technology.
Dr. Hans-Peter Kohlhammer
Dr. Kohlhammer has a distinguished career as a senior and chief executive of international high technology companies for over 30 years. Dr. Kohlhammer’s understanding and advice regarding international mobile telecommunications offers Virtual Intelligence valuable guidance on international mobile markets. Dr. Kohlhammer serves as a member of the board of directors of VimpelCom Ltd., one the world’s largest mobile carriers and is deputy chairman of the board of Vivanco AG, chairman of the board of Regify AF, a member of the board of Deutsche Steinzeug Cremer & Breuer AG, chairman of the supervisory board of KMS Kabelfernsehen and a member of the advisory board of Pepcom GMBH. He founded and is the Chief Executive Officer of KPC Kohlhammer Consulting, Munich. From 2003 to 2006, he was the Chief Executive Officer and Director General of the telecommunications company SITA SC, Geneva. From 2001 to 2003, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Grundig AG, Nuremberg. Dr. Kohlhammer has also served as the CEO of Esprit Telecom/GTS of London, Chairman of the Board of Thyssen Telecom A.G. Dusseldorf, Managing Director of Loewe Opta, Kronach and a member of the Board of Management of Digital Equipment Germany, in Munich. Dr. Kohlhammer has a doctorate degree in Mathematics from Bonn University (PhD).
Pascal has over 12 years of experience as a Software Engineer and Web developer working for company such as Kabam. Pascal specialises in e-commerce, social networking apps, data analysis, customer acquisition and web development for games.
Production Leadership Team
Rick Lamb – Technical Director
Rick is a 12 year veteran, with experience at Ubisoft, Naughty Dog and Acclaim. Rick has very broad experience in everything from rendering to gameplay and extensive experience developing new IP from initial concept to final shipped product. This includes three years spent creating the original Uncharted Drake’s Fortune, one of the most famous franchises in the industry. Rick specializes in development for iOS devices.
Jon Laff – Technical Director
Jon has a proven track record in software design and technology leadership with over 16 years of experience as an engineer in the video game industry. Prior to joining Virtual Intelligence, Jon was the CTO at 38 Studios and a senior systems engineer and lead engineer at Electronic Arts’ Montreal development house. Jon played a key role in growing the new studio and in developing its first AAA IP title, Army of Two. At EA Los Angeles, Jon was the lead engineer on Medal of Honor: European Assault and the Xbox lead engineer on Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. Jon Laff holds two degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder: a bachelor of science in computer science and a bachelor of arts in mathematics.
Graig Robertson – Audio Director
With 25 years of experience Graig is a consummate sound and music professional. A trained musician and composer, Graig’s music can be heard in concerts, radio, film, television and multi-million selling video games (EA, Radical). As a game sound and music specialist Graig has acquired extensive credits as an audio director, sound designer, composer, sound engineer, voice director, voice actor, script writer and session musician on over 20 games in the last 16 years.
Min Choi – Art Director
Min has been working in the computer game industry as a lead character modeler for numerous AAA titles. The last 16 years of his industry career encompassed work for EA on original PlayStation, PC, PlayStation2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. His experience includes work on multiple successful EA franchises such as FIFA, Triple Play and Skate. Recently, he worked as a lead character modeler to create human and animal characters for iPad games on IOS platforms. He studied classical animation at Emily Carr University of Art and Design located in Vancouver, BC.
